Deborah Smith

I have always loved to draw and paint. I attended the Kansas City Art Institute for my first semester of college in 1972 then transferred to Kansas State University where I majored in printmaking and commercial art. I had jobs as a commercial artist and was the art director at a printing company in Columbia Missouri. Then I took some graduate level classes in printmaking and anthropology. I am fascinated by textures, the beauty of nature, the beauty of living things and always am striving to learn more exciting ways to depict oh world.
I have had several one woman shows over the years at various venues in Missouri, Louisiana, and Indiana. I have had art accepted three times at the Hoosier Salon receiving a purchase award one time and selling an etching another time. I received the “best drawing” award at the Open Spaces Competition at the Minnetrista Center in Muncie and have Been in that show a few times as well as ones at the Indianapolis art center, Hancock County art Association, Hamilton County Art Show, watercolor Society show. I had a painting accepted to the juried Watercolor show last year at Newfields. I’ve won awards at the Will Vawter art competition several times. I was a member of the ICC Gallery for three years when they were located in Zionsville. I just won second place at the fishers art Association’s juried show! Last year I I finished 28 watercolor Illustrations for a book that my friend wrote called “What Tilly Knows”. It is now available on Amazon.
